Mangalore: Drug abuse results in suicide of young girl

Mangalore, Feb 3, 2013: In a tragic incident, a young girl  who was reportedly  addicted to drugs, has committed suicide by hanging herself at her house at Padavinangady  on the night of February 2, Saturday.

The deceased is Sneha Upadhyaya(18),  daughter of Gururaj Upadhyaya. It has been gathered that Sneha who was pursuing her I PUC at Sharada Vidyalaya , was however not attending classes since a  few months.

A complaint lodged with the Kavoor police by her father said Sneha who was addicted to drugs had been treated at a hospital in Bangalore last year.  Though her condition  had improved for some time, she had once again got back to her old  habits.

It has also been learnt that when her demands were not met, she had consumed tablets meant to control blood pressure last month, resulting in hospitalization.  Sources also said that she used to visit pubs and DJ parties often  despite her parents keeping her  under their strict vigil.

It is also said that though she was once refrained from going out of the house, she had complained to the police and Child Helpline stating she had been placed under house arrest.

It is learnt on Saturday night Sneha had demanded Rs 1500 from her mother, but when her demand was turned down, she had locked herself up in her room. The incident came to light on Sunday morning, when there was no response on knocking at the door. The door was broke open to find her hanging from the ceiling.

The body has been shifted to Wenlock for post-mortem. Investigations are in progress. This tragic incident has  exposed the  tentacles of the drugs mafia which was dangerously spreading and wreaking havoc on young lives.
