Mangalore, Nov 12, 2013: District-in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai flagged off the Coir Kranti Express, a mobile exhibition to promote coir products in the city at Town Hall on Nov 12, Tuesday.
Speaking after inauguration, Minister said that the Coir board is doing a good job by spreading the use of coir products among the people. The Coir Kranti Express may increase the popularity of coir and the farmers growing coconut.





T M Shahid, member of Central Coir Board said that the mobile exhibition, which was flagged off in Kanyakumari on November 5 and is scheduled to reach New Delhi on November 25, after traversing several states including Goa and Maharashtra.
The road show will then visit various spots in Mangalore and move towards Udupi district via Suratkal. The exhibition aims at boosting domestic sales of coir, exhibit types of coir products including handicrafts, along with an audio-visual show.
The valedictory ceremony of the coir show will be held New Delhi in the presence of President of India Pranab Mukherjee. An international workshop will be held in Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi on November 25, and national workshop at Chetanalaya on November 26 and 27. On Nov 28, a workshop on women empowerment in coir industry will be held in the same venue.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, KPCC secretary Ivan D’Souza, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, Ashraf, M S Mohammed, Kodijal Ibrahim and others were present.
