Mangalore Diocese felicitates Udupi Bishop Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo

Mangalore, Nov 5, 2012: Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, the first bishop of the newly formed Diocese of Udupi, was felicitated at Rosario Cathedral on Nov 4, Sunday.

 

 

 

 

 

The bishop of Udupi and Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore Diocese, were warmly welcomed at the entrance of Rosario Cathedral, after which Fr. Stany Goveas delivered the welcome address. The dignitaries were then escorted inside the church by the St. Ursula’s School of Rosario Church band. The mass was celebrated after the felicitation ceremony.

Gerald D’Costa, secretary of the Diocesan Pastoral Council, read the citation on behalf of the clergy and the lay people of the diocese and presented it to Dr. Lobo. Sr. Cecilia Mendonca, the secretary of the Council of Priests and the president of the CRI, offered flowers to the bishop on behalf of the diocesan priests. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza then felicitated the bishop of Udupi Diocese by offering him a shawl, fruits, garland, and flowers. He also presented the keys of a Tata Bolero to the bishop of Udupi.

Addressing the gathering, the bishop of Udupi thanked the bishop of Mangalore, the clergy, and the lay people for honoring him for the second time. He said that he was first honored when he became the bishop of Shimoga. Lauding the people of Udupi, he said that they are educated, enthusiastic, and service minded. Besides, Udupi is rich in resources and people have excellent leadership qualities, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza said that the Diocese of Udupi as well as Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo are very dear to him. He said that the Mangalore Diocese is willing to assist and share its resources with the Udupi Diocese.

The bishop of Udupi celebrated the mass after the felicitation ceremony.
