Mangalore, Dec 01: In a gruesome attack, a middle aged man was done to death at the ground floor of a business complex at the Vas Lane cross in Falnir road at 10 pm, on Saturday, December 1, 2012.
The victim is identified as Bejai Raja (46), who was an accused in two murder cases. He was hacked to death by a group of three unidentified persons in the ground floor of Westgate Terminus building.
Raja was an accused in the Pandu Pai murder case. He was said to have been done to death when he was speaking from a coin telephone booth. He was admitted to the near- by private hospital where he was declared dead. His body is shitted to Govt. Wenlock Hospital for post mortem.
According to his elder brother, Raja came home with the prasadam from some temple and went out without telling anyone where he was going.
Sources say that Bejai Raja had parked his car in front of West Gate building and went near Danish family restaurant to make a phone call. When he was on the phone, three to four persons attacked attacked him with machetes. There were number of customers in Danish family restaurant when the incident took place.
Assailants abandoned the machetes and fled from the scene.
Police commissioner Manish Kharbikar, ACP Kavitha, DCP Crime Dharmayya and other police officers arrived to the spot. Two of the machetes were recovered from the spot and investigation is on.
