Mangalore : ASESS demands better facilities for special educators

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Nov 27, 2012 : Saanidhya Residential School Director Vasanth Kumar Shetty said that the government is least interested in providing grants to the staff of special schools catering to the requirements of special children. The Karnataka State Association for Special Educators and Supportive Staff (ASESS) has urged the government to satisfy the demands of special educators, he added.

Addressing the press on Nov 27, Tuesday, Mr. Kumar said that special educators in other states have already received the required grants, but the government has still not given grants to special educators in Karnataka.

ASESS has, therefore, gotten in touch with all the ministers, including the previous and present chief ministers of the state, but still no one has responded to their pleas.

Although DK has 10 special schools with over 1000 special students, there is a shortage of teachers to teach the kids, he said. The government does not provide the required facilities and adequate salaries to the teachers, he added.

Declaring that the grants currently provided by the government are hardly sufficient, he said that ASESS will take the students to the director office of mentally disabled and senior citizens at Bangalore on Dec 7 if their demands are not satisfied. Since Dec 8 is a government holiday as it is the national day for the differently abled, ASESS has decided to take the students to the office on Dec 7.
