Mangalore: ABVP forms human chain seeking steps to curb drug menace

Mangalore, Feb 4, 2013: ABVP formed a human chain at Basaveshwar Circle near KPT on NH 66 on Feb 4, Monday, urging the state government to initiate stringent action against the drug mafia, which led to the death of Sneha Upadhya.

Addressing the protestors, ABVP State Secretary K Ramesh said that the undivided Dakshina Kannada is a hub of medical, engineering and other educational institutions, where several students across the nation come to pursue their studies. The drugs mafia which is active in the city was focusing on the students who easily fall prey to drugs which in turn ruin their future.


He said the Sneha Upadhya suicide is a clear case of drug abuse and added many such cases however go unreported. He urged the police department and state government to initiate stringent action and curb the drug mafia.


Vinay Horatti, city Organising Committee Secretary of the ABVP, urged   people’s representatives, college managements and student leaders to discuss the vital issue and help in cracking down the menace.
