Mangalore, Jan 17,2013 : The second leg of the All India Relay Cycling Expedition from Mangalore to Goa was flagged off at Mangalore International Airport on January 17, Thursday by Deputy Commissioner N Prakash.
The ’All India Relay Cycling Expedition from Trivandrum to Jammu’ has been organised by the Airports Authority of India, in association with the Airport Sports Control Board and the Mangalore International Airport. The main objective of the expedition is to promote national integration and to sensitize the public on the need to minimize fuel consumption.
In his address, the DC appreciated the organisers for arranging such an expedition which helped in furthering the cause of promoting peace and harmony in India.
Speaking on the occasion, Mangalore Airport Director Radhakrishna said the expedition which was kick started in Trivandrum on January 7 reached Mangalore on January 16. He said the cycling expedition was a very challenging one and added the greatest advantage of cycling was that it would help man remain physically fit.
Former airport director MR Vasudeva also spoke on the occasion.
The expedition which will reach Goa on January 21 will proceed to Mumbai-Baroda-Udaipur and reach Jammu on January 15.
The cycle expedition team comprises of Vamsi Pradeep from Vijayawada Airport, T Aravind and Jaydeep from Chennai Airport, S R Patil from Hubli Airport, Mukesh Meena from Vijayawada Airport and Dikshit from Rajamundri Airport.
