Man claiming to be soldier cheats Mangaluru origin family ; hunt for accused

Mangaluru, Jul 29, 2021: A case has been registered with regard to cheating a family of Mangaluru origin of Rs 2.23 lakhs  by a man from Ahmedabad who claimed himself as a soldier and made the family believe that there was a flat for rent in the city.

 

This  was informed to reporters here by City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar. The accused had sent  the photo of a furnished flat and convinced the family that a good flat was available at affordable rate. Later , he told the family that he was a soldier and was in financial distress and sought help to repay a loan. The family believing him had given him Rs 2.23 lakhs, the Commissioner said.

Police are on the lookout for the accused who is said to be  in north India.

The Commissioner has requested the public to be cautious regarding online advertisements through social media.
