Malpe Port will be complete in 2014 – Kota Shrinivas Poojary

Udupi, Sep 5, 2012 : Kota Shrinivas Poojary, minister for ports and inland water transport, told reporters during his visit to Malpe, that the third phase of the Malpe port construction project, which is worth Rs. 37.15 crore, will be completed in 2014.

The minister had visited Malpe to check the progress of the third phase of this project.

Further, the minister said that construction work is moving at a rapid pace in Udupi while compared to the port projects in Uttara Kannada and Mangalore. Announcing that the government has released Rs. 5.5 crore for dredging work, he said that Malpe Port is expected to accommodate as many as 1,500 motor boats.

He also said that the government has earmarked Rs. 57.6 crore for the third phase of the Mangalore port project, adding that once this project is completed, at least 1,200 boats can be anchored there.

He also said that Rs. 60 crore is being spent on constructing a jetty at Hejamadi Kodi, adding that the state government has contributed Rs. 29 crore for this project. Besides, Rs. 1.97 crore is being invested for dredging work at Hejamadi Kodi, but at least Rs. 3.40 crore is required to complete the dredging process.

Stating that he has visited harbours in Mangalore and Udupi to inspect the progress of the dredging and jetty construction work, he said that he is also studying local problems at the harbours. He also announced that all the undertaken projects will be completed by 2014 – 2015.
