New Delhi/Mangaluru, Aug 7, 2025: In a significant move aimed at enhancing rail connectivity in Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi and submitted a formal request for the introduction of a Vande Bharat Sleeper Express between Mangaluru and Bengaluru.
In his letter to the minister, Captain Chowta highlighted the transformative journey of Indian Railways under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that the Vande Bharat Express stands as a symbol of India’s engineering excellence and self-reliance, offering world-class travel experiences to the public. The soon-to-be-launched Vande Bharat Sleeper variant, expected in September 2025, he said, would mark a new milestone in overnight rail travel across the country.
Captain Chowta emphasized the strategic and economic significance of the Mangaluru–Bengaluru corridor, describing it as one of the most crucial intra-state routes in Karnataka. “The route witnesses consistently high passenger demand from students, professionals, tourists, and traders,” he pointed out.
He also noted that the current number of overnight trains operating on this busy corridor is inadequate, with most services running at full capacity. A Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, he argued, would provide a faster, safer, and more comfortable alternative, significantly improving passenger experience and regional connectivity.
Urging the minister to include the Mangaluru–Bengaluru route among the priority corridors for the Vande Bharat Sleeper rollout, Captain Chowta requested that concerned officials be directed to explore the operational and technical feasibility of launching the service at the earliest.
The proposal has received positive attention from various quarters, with stakeholders hopeful that it will address the growing transportation needs of coastal Karnataka.
