MIT student unconscious in hostel room, dies in hospital

Manipal , Aug 11,2016:A 20-year-old MIT student, studying third year B.Tech at the MIT, Manipal Institute of Technology was found lying unconscious in her room at the hostel, later died at the Kasturba Hospital recently.  The police identified the deceased as Gowri D. Thampi.

According to the police, the matter came to light when Gowri did not open the room even after her friends knocked on the door at around 10 p.m. on Monday. She was staying in Room No. 607 in the hostel.

They then brought it to the notice of the hostel warden, who had the door broken open. Gowri was found lying unconscious in the room. She was rushed to the Kasturba Hospital, where she died at around 11 p.m. the same day.    A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Manipal police station. Investigation is on, the police said.

According to director of MIT, Gowri’s mother came here from Cochin on Tuesday and gave permission for post-mortem. Her father, who works in Zambia, arrived on Aug 10,Wednesday, and they took the body for cremation to Kerala. The post-mortem report is yet to be received.
