Mangaluru, August 13, 2023: City Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths on Sunday arrested three drug peddlers engaged in selling MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine), a synthetic drug, in the Mangaluru city and seized 170 grams of MDMA worth Rs 9 lakh.
Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Kumar R Jain said the arrested have been identified as Imran alias Moodushedde Imran (36), a resident of Shivanagara in Moodushedde, Amjad Khan (42), a resident of Badagabettu in Udupi, and Abdul Basheer Abbas (39) (39) from Manjanady.
Acting on a reliable tip-off indicating that Imran, along with his associates, was involved in the sale of MDMA in the Bondel Padushedde vicinity, the CCB team, under the guidance of ACP P A Hegde, carried out a targeted operation. The trio had procured the MDMA from Bengaluru.
During the operation, the police also confiscated five MDMA pills, a vehicle, six mobile phones, and a digital weighing scale from the arrested individuals. The total estimated value of the seized assets is Rs 14,76,500.
The Commissioner stated that there are suspicions of the involvement of additional individuals in drug trafficking, and the crackdown on such activities will persist.
Among the apprehended suspects, Imran has a criminal record with nine cases registered against him across various police stations. He was notably implicated in the 2016 murder of Vamanjoor Charan, a case under the jurisdiction of the Mangaluru Rural police station. Imran’s history includes multiple cases related to the distribution of ganja, trafficking and selling of MDMA, substance abuse, and illegal trespassing. Surprisingly, he had been released on bail just a week before his recent arrest.
Meanwhile, Abdul Basheer Abbas has an unresolved assault case pending against him at the Bantwal Rural police station.
