Speaking about the latest development, MCC Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar K. said that the civic body has banned posters and hoardings on government and private buildings, compound walls, electric poles, and in other parts of the city in a bid to keep the city clean and neat. He added that the civic body will take strict action against all those who violate this rule.

He said that only MCC-approved banners, posters, and hoardings will be permitted in the city and that fines will be slapped on those who put up posters, banners, and hoardings without the civic body’s permission.

Stating that MCC workers have already begun pulling down hoardings in Yeyyadi, he said that all guilty parties will be dealt with as per the provisions of the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act of 1981.

Besides, posters advertising cinemas and shows, political events, and products and services will be completely banned, he said.

Admitting that the civic body has not thought of providing alternative methods of publicity, he said that the MCC can provide space for banners, hoardings, and posters according to its rules if citizens or theatre owners submit a request.

He said that the civic body is ready to discuss pros and cons of the ban with the public.
