Lifeguards save 3 Bangalorean students from watery grave

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Sept 23, 2012: The Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project lifeguards saved three Bangalorean students from a watery grave on September 23, Sunday.

LifeguardsFour students had arrived at the beach early in the morning and had gotten into the water for a swim when they were caught by a rip current. Lifeguards saw Yasser, Shahrukh, and Naveen in trouble and immediately jumped into the sea to rescue them. Fortunately, the three did not suffer much as they were rescued immediately.

Yathish Baikampady, CEO of the project, said that the three rested for sometime before leaving.

The lifeguards have saved several people from drowning these monsoons. On July 14, they saved Shwetha (21) from committing suicide and Sai Tej (13) from drowning. On August 21, they saved Ansar (21) of Mallur in Neermarga.

Mr. Baikampady said that tourists do not understand the dangers posed by rip currents, owing to which they get into the water without listening to warnings from lifeguards and local people. The lifeguards are local fishermen who understand the various moods of the sea well.

Ever since the Panambur Beach was presented to the project in October 2009, no tourist or visitor has died of drowning there, he said.
