Landslip in construction site at BC Road claims one life

Bantwal, Jan 29,2013: A construction worker lost his life when there was a landslip at the construction site of a convention hall opposite Chandikaparameshwari Temple at BC Road on January 28, Monday afternoon.

The deceased is Sharath (22), son of Ramanna Poojari of Kakkepadavu. Sources said that the failure of the construction company to ensure adequate precautionary measures led to the land slip Four construction workers including Sharath were engaged in pillar installation when the landslip took place.

While others managed to escape, Sharath was trapped and the fire service personnel along with policemen had to struggle for over an hour to retrieve Sharath’s body.

Sources said Sharath who had quit school after seventh standard was engaged in construction works since then to support his family. A case has been registered in Bantwal police station.

Ironically, the 108 ambulance which had arrived at the spot well in advance, however had vanished by the time Sharath’s body was retrieved. The body was taken to the hospital later in a police jeep.
