Kundapur: Violation of poll code; JD (U) candidate caught with a jeep carrying T-shirts

Kundapur, May1. 2013: A vehicle belonging to JD(U) candidate was caught by the election officials and the police in a joint operation on Tuesday April 30.They seized the vehicle along with the campaigning items, on charges of violating the election code of conduct.

 

 

JD (U) candidate Krishna Bharatkal was found campaigning in a private jeep and was chased by the election sector officer Kubera Reddy. The vehicle was spotted near kundapur old bus stand.  Bharatkal was in a T-shirt in which his party’s name and symbol was printed.

There were T-shirts, caps, banners, pamphlets, flags and shawls with the party’s symbol on them were found by the election officers and the police team led by SI Jayaram Reddy.

Kundapur police station have charged a case against Bharatkal for poll code violation by wearing the JD (U) T-shirt.

Bharatkal claims that:

He told to the media that he have been made a victim of ‘political vendatta’.

"I was not in any means transporting items illegally. Yet, the sector officer intercepted my vehicle and mistreated me, and even said I should not be standing for elections. When my driver went to the returning officer to produce the applicable documents, he was reprimanded and taken to the police station," he stated.

He also added that "I was using my own private vehicle. Besides, I had sought permission from circle inspectors of Brahmavar and Kundapur. The pamphlets found in my car were backed by documents. Also, details of the expenditure have been submitted to the state election commission. Though I explained all this to the election officers, they did not listen. I was not informed about it beforehand. I am planning to file a complaint of abuse against two of the sector officers,"
