Kundapur : Journalist’s attackers surrender before court; granted bail

 Kundapur Feb 6, 2013 :   Three accused in the case of  attack on Vijayavani’s Udupi reporter Sripathi Hegde Haklady have surrendered before the court on February 4, Monday. They have been granted bail.

The accused Adikekodlu Udaykumar Shetty, vice-president of Vandse gram panchayat, Totabail Santosh Kumar Shetty, former president of Hattiangady gram panchayat, and Surendra, an auto driver from Kutbeltoor arrived in the court along with Congress  supporters Vandaballi Jayaram Shetty, Jayalaxmi, Tallur gram panchayat president, Chandravathi Hegde and others.

It is learnt, while attacking the journalist, reportedly in retaliation to some of his reports exposing their misdeeds, the accused had dared him that he can do no harm to them as they enjoyed the patronage of an MLA.

In the meantime, in another development, Deputy Commissioner MT Reju has ordered holding of re-election to the post of the President of Vandse GP on February 13 and has appointed three returning officers.

It may be recalled here that Haklady in his report had exposed the irregularities during the election.
