Konkani Music Legend Eric Ozario Laid to Rest with State Honours

Mangaluru, Aug 31, 2025: Konkani music legend and cultural activist Eric Ozario was laid to rest with police honours and moving musical tributes.

The funeral mass at St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia drew hundreds, including leaders from religious, cultural and musical fields. District-in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, MLC Ivan D’Souza and Konkani Sahitya Academy president Stany Alvares led the state honour ceremony.

At Kalaangann, Shaktinagar, Ozario’s lifelong cultural stage, admirers, politicians and artists gathered for a final farewell. A Sangeetanjali was performed by the Mother Teresa Band, Honnavar, along with Kalaangann musicians.

Mandd Sobhann president Louis J Pinto announced that a 12-day, 12-hour, 12-minute non-stop musical programme would be held at Kalaangann in his memory.

Eric’s mortal remains were later taken in procession to Boloor Electric Crematorium, where the last rites were performed amid emotional tributes.
