Konaje GP DPO caught while accepting bribe

Mangalore, March 29, 2012 : Savithri, the development officer at Konaje Gram Panchayat (GP), and Abubakker, the secretary, were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 3,000 from a woman on March 28 Wednesday.

The woman who was paying the bribe was Sarika of Koppala in Konaje. She had applied for a door number 18 months back and had been continuously visiting the GP office to find out the status of her application. Whenever she visited the GP, the staff turned her back as her house was built on kumki land.


 

 

 

However, she was still eligible for a door number as the laws were recently relaxed and she had applied again one month back. But the GP staff continued to harass her and demanded Rs. 5,000 as bribe. She finally agreed to pay Rs. 3000 and lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta.

Accordingly, the Lokayukta police raided the GP office when Sarika visited it again on March 28 Wednesday and nabbed Savithri red-handed.

Aboobakker has also been arrested along with Savithri for aiding her. Savithri, who has been working as a PDO in the Konaje GP for the past 3 years is due to retire in four months.

The Lokayukta team, which arrested the duo, was led by SP D. S. Jagamayanavar, Inspector Umesh Shet, DySP Sadanand Varnekar, Dilip Kumar, and Udaya Nayak.
