Kerala C M, Oommen Chandi to visit Mangalore on May 2

Mangalore, May 1, 2013: Ibrahim Kodijal, Interim District President of the party said that the Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy will visit Daksina Kannada district on May 2 to campaign for the Congress party in view of the impending Assembly elections.

Addressing media persons at the district party office in Mangalore on Wednesday he said that as part of the election campaign, Mr. Chandy will cover Mangalore, Bantwal, B C Road, Belthangady, Kadaba and Deralakatte.

He said that “Senior party leaders Oscar Fernandes, M Veerappa Moily, B Janardhana Poojary and actress Ramya have already campaigned in the district and Congress party has been receiving good response from the people. The Congress is certain to come to power in the state”..

He appealed to the public to vote for the Congress in order to ensure that communal harmony comes back in the region.

He also added that “The Babri Masjid was demolished when the BJP came to power in Uttar Pradesh. Here in Karnataka too, after the BJP came to power, there were attacks on churches and mosques. There is a need to defeat the communal BJP”.

When asked about the claims made by certain members from SDPI about the Congress making an attempt to “buy” their party men, he chose to play down the issue.

“Purchasing is the culture of the BJP, not ours. Trading allegations is very common during election season. The SDPI is a party born recently. We are not bothered about the allegations they make”, he said.
