Kendra Sahitya Academy Award winner Melwyn Rodrigues felicitated

Mangalore, Mar 4, 2012: Seventeen Konkani organizations jointly organized a felicitation ceremony for Melwyn Rodrigues, the winner of the Konkani Sahitya Academy Award of 2011. Mr. Rodrigues was honoured with a citation and a shawl on this occasion.

A photograph of Melwyn Rodrigues was unveiled on this occasion and presented to the Basti Vaman Shenoy, the president of the World Konkani Centre, to be placed in the WKC Hall of Fame.

Speaking after accepting the felicitation, Mr. Rodrigues spoke about how poetry originates. He also expressed his gratefulness to the community on this occasion. 

Speaking on the occasion, Pundalik Narayan Nayak, the poet, said that he is happy that Mr. Rodrigues got this award when he is still alive as many people get recognition only after their deaths. He also said that the award has given Kavita Trust and Melwyn Rodrigues a better opportunity to promote Konkani poetry. 

Mr. Eric Ozario, the gurkar of Mandd Sobhann, and Mahadevi Desai, the Konkani writer, also spoke on the occasion. 

Mr. Ozario sang six songs written by Melwyn Rodrigues, and poems from the award-winning anthology Prakrathicho Paas were performed in the form of a skit.
