Udupi, May 18, 2012 : Addressing a public meeting held in Kaup and Katpady on May 17, Thursday, Shivanand Walikar, the circle inspector of Kaup, warned the public to beware of suspicious-looking strangers in their locality.
The police had conducted the public meeting to raise public awareness about the rising cases of theft, pickpocket, and chain snatching.
Walikar also urged the public to cooperate with the police to bring theft under control.
Giving the public certain tips to protect themselves, he told them not to allow salesmen and rag pickers inside their houses and to immediately call the police if they see suspicious characters around. He also advised the public to inform the police before leaving on long vacations, keep their ornaments and valuables in bank lockers, and avoid carrying gold and other valuables with them.
Kaup ASI Ganesh, Katpady SI Gowri Shankar, and many other police officers were also present.
