Kaup Circle Inspector accused of assaulting Kote GP Chief

Kaup, Nov 26, 2013 :  Tension prevailed at Kaup on November 24, Sunday night after  the Kaup Circle Inspector  Sunil Nayak reportedly assaulted the Katapady-Kote Gram Panchayat President Prashanth Jattanna, following an altercation between the two over the issue of dehoisting the  national flag which was hoisted outside the GP office.

According to sources, the GP Chief Prashanth Jattanna, who came to know through his driver that the national tri-colour has not been de-hoisted, had rushed to the spot and was dehoisting the flag when the Circle Inspector who was on a night patrolling, questioned the GP chief and even warned of filing a case for offending the national flag  by not dehoisting it on time.

It is learnt, though the GP Chief tried to explain that it was the duty of the  TMC officials and that he was doing it as soon as it came to his notice, the Circle Inspector was in no mood to listen to him and had reportedly assaulted him.

As tension mounted, several people including  Deviprasad Shetty, President of GP Federation, former  ZP Chief Sarasu D Bangera and  Katapady Gram Panchayat President Vinay Ballal rushed to the spot and threatened to protest against the Circle Inspector.

 Realizing that things were taking an ugly turn,  additional police forces were summoned and Karkala ASP Annalmalai rushed to the spot and was successful in pacifying the warring  groups.

Both the Circle Inspector and the GP Chief have lodged separate complaints and the ASP has assured  impartial probe and action against the guilty. Meanwhile, the GP Chief Jattanna who has problem of blood pressure, has been admitted to the hospital. He said he has even brought the matter to the notice of the Udupi District Minister Vinaykumar Sorake.

Protest warned : On the other hand, the GP Federation President Deviprasad Shetty and General SecretaryHarish Kini have warned of a protest by locking up all Gram Panchayat offices if action was not initiated against the Kaup Circle Inspector.
