Kateel Temple’s elephant Mahalakshmi kneels to salute national flag on Independence Day

Mangaluru, Aug 16, 2025: Independence Day celebrations were held on the chariot street of the Kateel Durgaparameshwari Temple under the auspices of the temple and the Educational Institutions to mark India’s 79th Independence Day.

On this special day, the temple elephant ‘Mahalakshmi’ arrived adorned in festive decorations, walking with regal grace. She trumpeted loudly three times, kneeled down, and offered her respects to the national flag in a unique flag salute. NCC, Scouts, and Rangers groups also participated in the parade and flag salute.

Temple Management Committee President Sanath Kumar Shetty, hereditary trustees Vasudeva Asranna, priests Lakshminarayana Asranna, Venkataramana Asranna, Anantapadmanabha Asranna, Kamaladevi Prasad Asranna, Sriharinarayana Das Asranna, and several others were present on the occasion.
