Kasargod, Jan15,2013 : A special police squad has arrested seven persons in connection with the case of a broad daylight dacoity in the house of one Rajesh Shenoy of Kumble last month. If one of the accused is from Mangalore, another is from Bantwal.
The incident had taken place on December 22 when the assailants who barged into the house of Shenoy near the Kumble telephone exchange, had tied down the family members, plastered their mouth after rendering them unconscious using chloroform and had escaped with 12 golden bangles, three rings weighing 45 sovereigns and a cash of Rs 25000. They had made their way into the house through the back doors.
The incident had come to light when a relative visited the house during night.
The arrested are Abdul Gafur (52) of Mangalore, Aboobakker Siddique of Bantwal (22), Aboobbakker Siddique (29), Abdul Azeez of Sampya (44), Mohammad Ashraf of Mangalpady and Narasimha Pai alias Murthi (50).
Kasargod SP Surendran informed that a total of nine persons were involved in the dacoity. It is said the seven arrested had passed on information to a criminal gang in Mangalore that a cash of Rs 5 crore was in the house of Shenoy.
However, the dacoits who could not find the cash, had escaped with whatever jewels and cash it could find in the house. The SP also said the assailants would soon be arrested and added the co-operation of the Mangalore police has been sought.
