Kasargod:Mothers of Endosulfan victims block NH

Kasargod, Feb 26, 2013: The agitation demanding a justifiable rehabilitation package for Endosulfan victims of the district, has gained momentum. On February 25, Monday,   several people including the mothers of Endosulfan victims blocked the National Highway near the new bus terminus of Kasargod,  in support of their demands.

Various activists are also on a hunger strike since February 18 and the condition of one of the protestors is said to be critical. The request by the authorities to get the person hospitalized has proved futile.

The road  block agitation was  inaugurated by one Muneesa who is an Endosulfan victim who has lost her eyesight. Coming down heavily on the authorities for ignoring the plight of Endosulfan victims.                                                                                                  

she said they failed to understand why the government wants to suspend the relief measures  provided to the victims after five years. Even the process of issuing compensation as recommended by the National Human Rights Commission, is very slow, she pointed out.
