Kasargod, May 24, 2013: Police have arrested five persons in connection with the death of one Shivappa Nayak(35) of Mallampare, Adoor in February this year.
Though initially it was suspected to have an accidental death as Shivappa’s body was recovered from a pond near his house, later it came to light through investigations that it was not an accidental death, but a case of murder.
Venkappa Nayak (30) of Mallapare, Kallathil Seetarama (32), Subraya (38), Shivappa’s relative Janardhan (28) and Somashekar (26) were arrested in this connection. Investigations have also revealed that a previous enmity over a property dispute culminated into the murder.
Though the police had registered a case of unnatural death, Shivappa’s wife could not accept the argument and she had even moved the home minister and SP over the issue seeking a thorough probe.
The police had also formed a special team to probe the case. The team found that the accused had intercepted Shivappa while he was on way home, picked up a quarrel and then strangulated him to death and dumped the body in the pond.
Some of the accused even pretended innocent soon after the body was recovered and even helped in arranging the funeral.
A Satish Kumar, Adoor Circle Inspector had led the investigation team.
