Karnataka Indians emerges victorious in international T20 cricket match

Mangalore, April 30, 2012 : The Western Institute Karnataka Indians Team emerged victorious over the visiting Zimbabwe Team at the international T20 cricket match, the first event of its kind held in Mangalore on NMPT Ground on April 29 Sunday.

The local team defeated the visiting team by 38 runs and won the Heath Streak Corporation Bank Mohtisham T20 International Cricket Cup 2012. The visiting team comprised international cricket stars such as Heath Streak, Alistair Campbell, Grant Flower, Mpumelelo Mbangwa, and others.

The local team, which won the toss, chose to bat and openers Rahul Kotian and Mohammed Naushad set the ball rolling. Naushad, the man of the match, scored 72 before he lost his wicket to Zimbabwe player Mbangwa. Gurudeep Madhyastha, the wicket keeper batsman, contributed a half century, leading to the host team getting a score of 193 runs with 6 wickets lost in 20 overs.


The performance of the Zimbabwe team was poor right from the beginning as they lost 2 wickets during the first 3 overs and 9 runs. It was Sampath who sent several Zimbabwe players back to the pavilion, owing to which the visiting team lost 3 wickets at 25 runs.


Although Heath Streak did his best to save the match, he did not succeed, but he played excellently, making a magnificent 59 while Douglas Marillier scored 28.


The best bowlers of the local team were Sampath Kumar, Sumeeth, Jayaprakash, and Vinay G. K. Thanks to the brilliant performance of these players and many others in the local team, they could emerge victorious.


The Man of the Match Award was conferred on Naushad, while the Most Spectacular Cricketer Award was conferred on Douglass Marillier. While Gurudeep Madhyastha won the Best Batsman Award, Chigumbara was rewarded for his excellent fielding. Heath Streak won the prize for bagging the largest number of sixes and Naushad won the prize for getting the largest number of bounders. The Best Bowler of the Match Award was conferred on Sampath.


The Zimbabwe team comprised top players such as Grant Flower, Health Streak, Raymond Price, Alistair Campbell, Elton Chigumbura, Brendon Taylor, Douglas Marillier, Terry Duffin, Mpumelelo Mbangwa, Charles Coventry, and Dirk Vilojoen.


The local team comprised Janardhan, Naushad, Divesh, Jayaprakash, Gurudeep Madhyastha, Vinay G. K., Sampath Kumar, Sumeeth, Sachin, Suhail, and Semitha. The umpires were Harigovind and Sujith.


The Karnataka Indians Team scored 193 for 6 in 20 overs while the Zimbabwe Team  scored 155 for 9 in 20 overs.


Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes inaugurated the match with his wife Blossom in the presence of MLAs Abhayachandra Jain and U. T. Khader; Rohan Monteiro, the proprietor of Property Infra Tech; Stephen Mendes, the MD of Western Institute; and Joseph Rego, the head of the Heath Streak Foundation.
