Karkala : Death of 8 monkeys triggers panic among villagers

Karkala, Aug 29, 2013 : The death of eight monkeys has brought in a sense of fear among residents of Bobbala in Tellaru area of Karkala. On August 27, Tuesday, locals saw a monkey lying dead inside the compound of a house in the  area.

It is learnt, this particular monkey was wandering in the area since some time.  It is believed that the monkey fell ill and died after it was bit by a dog in the area. But the death of seven other monkeys reported after this incident, has panicked locals.

Senior   officials including Subrahmanya Rao,Forest Officer,  Dr Krishnananda, Taluk Health officer, Dr Nagaraj Balegar, Director of Department of Animal Husbandry visited the area as per the instructions of Tahsildar. Local councilors were also present.

Dr Nagaraj Balegar said the post mortem of the dead monkey was conducted,  and that it could not ascertain the cause of the death of the animal.
