Karkala : 2-day National Fest enthralls classical music lovers

 Karkala, Jan 23,2013: A two-day National Music Festival organized by the  Shastriya Sangeetha Sabha (R) in association with Sri B Manjunath Pai Cultural Foundation  in the town  recently,  gave a golden opportunity to Karkalites to witness and enjoy the performance of several well-known  artistes of national and international fame-both vocal and instrumental.

The Manjunath Pai Cultural Auditorium in the town was the venue of the festival which saw artistes presenting shows both in Hindustani and Carnatic styles.


K Arun Puranik, former president of the Sabha along with Prabhakar Marathe inaugurated the festival. Nityananda Pai, President of the Shastriya Sangeetha Sabha, Dr Prakash Shenoy, Secretary  and Prabhakar Pandit, Treasurer, were also present on the dais. The inaugural day saw a  Carnatic flute concert by Krishnapawan Kumar from Mangalore and  Carnatic vocal by N Saketaraman from Chennai/Bangalore, enthralled the audience.


A day-long Hindustani classical music festival was also organised.
  Pandit Bhimanna Jadhav from Solapur gave an enchanting Sundari (a rare instrument - a shorter of Shehanai) recital followed by Hindustani Vocal by Sumedha Desai from Goa. Manoj Acharya from Karkala (a disciple of Late Ustad Alla Rakha and Ustad Zakir  Hussain) gave an excellent tabla solo.


Koushik Aithal from Bangalore presented a  Hindustani Vocal concert, while there was a  sitar duet by Guru Ustad Rafique Khan and disciple Ankush N Nayak.


H Gopala Bhandary, MLA of Karkala presided over the concluding ceremony V Sunil Kumar, former MLA, B Nagendra D Pai and B Ananth G Pai,Trustees of Shri B Manjunath Pai Cultural Foundation were the chief guests.


The festival concluded with a Hindustani vocal concert by Pt Raghunandan Panshikar. A Rangoli depicting the late Pandit Ravishanker, a creation by Karkala artiste Surya Purohit was the special attraction at the venue of the music festival.
