Karanth Puraskara conferred on noted environmentalist Dr. N. A. Madhyasta

Mangalore, Oct 11, 2012 : Dr. N. A. Madhyastha, the noted environmentalist, received the prestigious Karanth Puraskara at a program held in commemoration of the 111th birth anniversary of Dr. Kota Shivaram Karanth on Oct 10, Wednesday.

 

 

 

 

The program was jointly organized by the Kalkura Prathishtana and DK Zilla Sahitya Parishad. Deputy Mayor Amitakala inaugurated the event by offering flowers to the portrait of Karanth. MLC Monappa Bhandary presided over the event.

Prof. A. V. Navada, retired lecturer of Hampi Kannada University, said on the occasion that Karanth was a multi-faceted personality, adding that he was a writer, scientist, photographer, and so on. Since Karanth deeply studied folklore, one can find rare Kundapur Kannada words in his work Sirigannada Kosha.

Noted scholar Dr. William D’Silva also spoke on the occasion.

Retired lecturer Uday Kumar Malla’s book Modala Kallu was released on this occasion.
