Kanaka Jayanthi celebrated at Udupi

Udupi, November 24: The Udupi District administration, the Department of Kannada and Culture and the Paryaya Shiroor Math jointly celebrated the birth anniversary of poet-philosopher and Kirtana exponent Kanakadasa at Rajangana, Udupi on Wednesday, November 24.

 

 

 

 

In his inaugural speech, Swami Laxmivarateerta of Shiroor Mutt said that Kanakadasa has special connection with Udupi and as he was the follower of Sri Vyasaraja Swamiji. He said that both Kanakadasa and Vadiraja lived in the same era. On the advice of Vyasaraja Swamiji he came to Udupi. He stood outside the Math and received the Darshana of idol of Krishna through a small window called as kanakana kindi, he added. Udupi Shri Krishna Temple is one of the most revered temples of south India and Kanakana Kindi of this temple is very famous.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Raghupati Bhat praised the Kanakadasa’s effort in eliminating the social injustice. He worked towards the development of untouchables and poor sections of the society, he added.

Professor A V Navada of Mangalore gave a special lecture on Kanakadasa on the occasion.

Udupi Deputy commissioner’s assistent Prakash, Ranjan Kalkura, The state Kurubara Sangha regional director Sadanand,  Jayakar Shetty Indrali and town councilor Bharati Chandrashekar were present on the dais.
