Mangalore, Oct. 17, 2012: G. Parameshwar, president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), said that Sonia Gandhi, president of the Indian National Congress, will arrive at Nehru Maidan to address the Congress workers’ convention, scheduled for Oct 18, Thursday, at 4:30 p.m.
Addressing the press at the office of the district Congress office today, Mr. Parameshwar said that a reception committee has been formed to extend warm welcome to Sonia Gandhi visiting the city.
An oath-taking ceremony of the Bharat Seva Dal students will also be held on this occasion.
Mr. Parameshwar said that Congress leaders will bring to Mrs. Gandhi’s attention the problems of fishermen and areacanut growers of the coastal region. They will also urge her to rccomend special status to six districts in accordence with the Nanjundappa’s Report.
After the convention, Mrs. Gandhi will visit Kurdroli Temple to inaugurate temple’s centenary celebrations and the Mangalore Dasara at 6.30 pm.
Congress leaders Badruddin, MLA B. Ramanath Rai, P. V. Mohan, Ivan D’Souza, Vinayakumar Soreke and others were also present.
