KCO, Samanvaya gave away scholarships worth Rs. 12 lakh

Mangalore, Aug 26, 2012: The Konkani Cultural Organization (KCO), based in Abu Dhabi, and Samanvaya of Mangalore distributed Rs. 12 lakhs in scholarships to 171 students belonging to different communities at a special ceremony held at Shanthi Kiran Hall in Bajjodi on August 26, Sunday.

Delivering the inaugural address, Ivan D’Souza, secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), who was also the chief guest of the occasion, said that the contribution of the Christian community, which forms just 3.37 percent of the total population, in the fields of social work, education, and medicine is immense. He also motivated the students to do their best and achieve their goals. 

Speaking on the occasion, Ramanath Rai, senior Congress leader, lauded the KCO and urged all students to use their scholarships well. 


Samanvaya Director Fr. Ronald Cutinha spoke about KCO Abu Dhabi and Samanvaya Mangalore. Fr. Pius Fidelis Pinto, managing trustee of Samanvaya, delivered the welcome address, and Robert Rego, former KCO president, delivered the vote of thanks. KCO President Michael D’Souza presided. 


Among those on the dais were Treasurer Franklin D’Cunha, Leena D’Souza, Archie Fernandes, Leslie Rego, Felix D’Silva, and others. 


The sponsors were Leo and Lavina Rodrigues, Rohan Monteiro of Property Infratech, Naveen Cardoza of Marian Projects, and Al Mazroui and Clevy Automobiles Services LLC. Students, their parents, and members of Samanvaya and KCO were present in large numbers
