Padubidri, Oct 30, 2013 : Thieves who broke into a jewellery shop in heart of the town on October 28, Monday night have decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth nearly Rs 80,000.

The theft occurred in Jayashree Jewellers owned by one P Umesh Acharya. Thieves gained entry into the shop by breaking open the rear door using a rod. They have decamped with several small silver idols and precious stones. Luckily, the locker was untouched.
The thieves had virtually ransacked the shop as is evident from the scene there. Police suspect that the thieves were present inside the shop for quite a long time. It is said the weak rear door gave easy access to the thieves to the shop.
Finger print experts and dog squad have been pressed into service. Senior police officials have also visited the spot.
