Mangaluru, July 29, 2025: As per the earlier schedule, the work was to be expedited and the road was planned to be opened for vehicle movement before the onset of the monsoon. However, during the construction, an unexpected underground obstruction was discovered, causing delays in the project. Currently, the work is in progress, and the road construction is being undertaken by Mangaluru Smart City. On one side of the Jappinamogaru National Highway, one lane of the road construction has been completed.
Due to the ongoing construction of the railway underpass, vehicular traffic has been suspended for several years. A narrow lane beside it is being used by two-wheelers, but a pothole in the middle of that path has created a safety hazard. For years, a pothole in a curved section of this road has posed a danger to riders. The road is narrow and congested, and since a high number of two-wheelers use it especially during mornings and evenings, traffic congestion is common. The presence of a gate at the level crossing further adds to the congestion.
For the construction of the railway underpass, ₹30.7 crore has been paid by the Smart City to the Railway Department. The Railway Department itself has called for tenders and is carrying out the work. Around ₹20 crore will be spent on the construction of the underpass, and the remaining funds will be used for building connecting roads. On both sides of the underpass, the Smart City has already constructed concrete four-lane roads.
