Mangalore, August 10: The Janavadi Mahila Samithi (JMS) organized a protest in front of the DC’s office demanding the implementation of the right to food from the government, today. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

JMS State Secretary K. Lakshmi said that every family must have a ration card and get 35kgs of rice at the rate of Rs 2. Stating that the government’s policies have affected the national food security, she remarked sarcastically that the central government does not see a threat to national security in scams, but feels that providing ration cards to people will lead to financial crisis.

Although the government claims to be working toward the elimination of poverty, it is involved in reducing the number of the poor by not giving them their rights. Even five percent of the population does not have ration cards, she added.

JMS President Sukanya and Secretary Sajida were also present, along with a number of other members.
