JD (S) voices its opinion of MCC elections

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, March 8, 2012 : Addressing reporters at a press conference held in Hotel Woodlands on March 8 Thursday, M. G. Hegde, the member of the District JD (S), said that, despite its experience in the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), the BJP made a big mistake while filing the nomination papers.

In response to a statement made by Yogish Bhat, the deputy speaker of the Karnataka State Legislative Assembly, he said that the deputy speaker ought to know the rules very well, in spite of which he has requested the election commissioner to re-examine the nomination papers, something that has never before happened in the history of the MCC.

Reacting to statements made by Shrikar Prabhu, the president of the BJP’s city unit, who claimed that the election commissioner acted under pressure, Mr. Hegde said that it is the citizens who suffer in such games and the JD (S) will not allow any party to create problems for the local people. In such a case, the JD (S) will stage an intense protest, he added.

Stating that the BJP alone is responsible for this mistake, he said that the BJP, which is now in majority, must specify whether they can accept a mayor belonging to the Congress party or whether the mayor will approve decisions taken by the BJP majority. He also blamed internal conflicts within the BJP for being responsible for this problem.

Speaking on the occasion, Azeez Kudroli, the JD (S) corporator, said that the new mayor has been insulted by an unknown person who stole the mayor’s black coat, which ought to have been traditionally handed over to her after the election. He said that action must be taken against the person who has stolen the coat.

Criticizing the commissioner of MCC, who failed to be present and welcome the elected mayor, he said that this shows that the commissioner is under the control of the BJP. He also said that the deputy mayor was also not handed over the post in the usual traditional manner.

A number of JD (S) workers Ravindra Ullal, Shashiraj Shetty, Ramakrishna Shetty, Venkatesh N. Rao, and others were also present.
