Mangalore, July 9, 2012: The Mangalore Jawa Yezdi Motorcycle Club celebrated the 10th International Jawa Day in the city on July 8, Sunday.
The International Jawa Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of every July all over the world in honor of Jawa and Yezdi bikes, which are now no longer manufactured.
The club arranged a rally of Jawa and Yezdi motorbikes as part of this day, and as many as 32 Jawa bikes and 4 Willys jeeps participated. The rally began at YMPU Ground in Balmatta.
Shaun Fernandes, club member, said that the club in Mangalore has been organizing the rally ever since 2007. During the first year, only three people participated in the rally, but next year, around 15 Jawa and Yezdi owners turned up.
Models such as Jawa Jet, Jawa Colt, Road King, Jawa Classic, and others were showcased on this event. The Jawa Colt is believed to be the oldest model, manufactured back in 1960.
Many people in Mangalore believe that owning and riding a Jawa or Yezdi is a prestige issue.
