Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Poojary says that she is proud of the fact that the team never lost a match this championship and that every member of the team has contributed to this success.

Stating that the team played the final match against Iran very carefully, she said that in the semi finals of the Asian Games, they had emerged victorious over the Iranian team by one point. She further said that, although the Iranian team is good and they played well, it was the Indian team that won the cup.

She also said that their financial condition at home improved only after she became a sports star and says that she became successful only because of the blessings of her elder brother and parents.

D. V. Sadananda Gowda, the chief minister of Karnataka, has congratulated the team in general and Mamatha Poojary in particular. The CM, who holds the sports portfolio right now, said that the state government, which is giving a prize of Rs. 5 lakh to the hockey team, will reward Mamatha Poojary generously too.
