Incessant rains paralyze fishing activity

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Sep 2, 2011 :Since it has been raining heavier than usual after the seasonal ban on fishing was withdrawn, the fishing community is in despair as they are unable to re-commence fishing activities. The fishing communities of Malpe, Mangalore, Honnavar, and Karwar are all facing similar difficulties.

The fishing industry is paralyzed because of the incessant rains. In Malpe, local boats as well as fishing boats from other ports have been moored, giving rise to a number of altercations regarding space. Owing to the overcrowding of boats at this port, several boats have been damaged because of the friction of brushing against one another.

Hundreds of fishing families are already feeling the pinch. They have urged the Fisheries Department to find a solution at the earliest.
