Ignorance about religion leads to unrest in society, Justice Santosh Hegde at Dharmasthala

Mangalore, Dec 12, 2012 :  It is the ignorance about the basic essence of religions that results in unrest in society, observed former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde.

 

Speaking after inaugurating the 80th Sarva Dharma Sammelan  held at the Amrithavarshini Auditorium at Dharmasthala on December 11, Tuesday as part of Lakshadeepotsava celebrations, he said  no religion preaches hatred and added it were only some prejudiced minds which  try to sow hatred in the name of religion.

Peace is the essence of all religions, Justice Hegde  said and observed that Sarva Dharma Sammelans go a long way in promoting peace in the society. “Until now I was only fighting against corruption, henceforth, I will also strive to establish peace in the society,” Justice Hegde declared.

Dr Prasanna Venkatacharyar Vathurvedi Swamiji of Sri Ramanujam Mission Trust, Chennai, who presided over the function said  there was a need to establish universal peace by  controlling anarchy and uncivilized behavior. He also emphasized the need for the people to imbibe noble virtues, which will help in promoting peace in the society.

Fr PK Jacob  of Dharwad, delivered a lecture on  the topic ‘Chraistha Dharmadalli Sarva Dharma Samanvaya Drishti’ while Abdussalam Puttige, Chief Editor of Vartha Bharathi spoke on ‘Islam Dharmadalli Samanvaya Drishti.”

Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, who  welcomed the gathering, said a religious revolution was underway and attempts were made to guide the society spiritually through various means. He described Dharma as an ideological concept that wants humanity to live in unison.
Prof. S Prabhaker, Vice President of SDM Educational Institutions, D Surendra Kumar and others were present.

The redesigned website of Dharmasthala shrine www.shridharmasthala.org  was launched by Justice Santosh Hegde on the occasion.

Prior to the function, the chief guests were brought to the venue of the Sarva Dharma Sammelan in a colourful procession.
