Speaking with presspersons on the sidelines of 20th annual day of St Joseph’s Joyland School at Kolya on the outskirts of Mangalore on Monday, he said that he has not restricted himself to cricket but has come to India to create an awareness on ‘Chris Cairns’ Foundation.

He said “the Foundation seeks to help underprivileged children who are deaf and tries to get back their hearing through cochlear implants” and added that   he is very close to the hearing impaired children as his father had lost his hearing.

Stating that India will be the favorite team in the next cricket world cup, Cairns said that New Zeland team is being outplayed by Indian team. Indian players are confident and Virat Kohli is a good player. With New Zeland’s defeat to Bangladesh, the New Zeland team should gain their confidence and play more consistently, he added. He hopes to see an Indian all rounder in the near future.

On IPL, the cricketer said “IPL is a fantastic competition. I love watching the game but happy that I am is not playing for IPL.”

Earlier, he addressed the children with ‘Namasthe’ and said that good education is what evry child deserves.

In fact, Cairns made big news in 2008 by walking 1,000 kilometres promoting rail safety and says he would love to walk in India too for the cause.
