Mangalore, June 25, 2012: The Mangalore unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) organized a protest at IMA House in Attavar on June 25, Monday in support of the nationwide strike called by the IMA to oppose the National Council for Human Resources in Health (NCHRH) Bill, Bachelor of Rural Health Care (BRHC) Course, and the Clinical Establishment Act.
Delivering the protest address, Dr. K. Jayaprakash Shetty said that the Central Health Ministry’s move to implement the NCHRH Bill will divest the medical and paramedical councils of their autonomous power.
IMA Karnataka Vice President Dr. K. Mohandas Bhandary said that granting autonomous power to democratic institutions results in better service and revoking this power will cause decline in quality of medical services all over the country.
Doctors associated with the IMA kept their clinics closed today to take part in the protest. Only emergency medical services were kept open.
The IMA also submitted a memorandum to the governor of Karnataka through the DC.
