ICYM launches national-level campaign to empower youth

Mangalore, Jan 22: Jago Yuva Bharat (JYB), a national-level campaign launched by the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) in commemoration of the International Year of Youth was inaugurated in Mangalore on Jan 22, Saturday. A motor rally launched at Kanyakumari on Jan 12, which is scheduled to conclude on March 12 in Delhi, forms part of the campaign.

In Mangalore, the rally commenced at Thokkottu, passed Mahaveera Circle, Nanthoor, and St. Agnes College, before ending at the DC’s office near State Bank of India and comprised 500 people, 50 auto rickshaws, and 105 two wheelers.

After blessing the campaign, Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza said that all the citizens of the nation should be united. Stating that the youth play a major role in the development of a nation, he said that they should be encouraged to get involved in developmental projects and politics.


Fr. Anil D’Souza, the director of ICYM; Ivan D’Souza, advocate and Congress leader; MLA U. T. Khader; Krishna Bairegowda; Arun Coelho of Youth Congress; H. M. Ashraf of Congress Seva Dal; Basil D’Souza, the president of Ullal Municipality; Praveen Alva; and Mithun Rai participated in this programme. 


The campaign will also include a formal programme at the DC’s office and a street play, which will be performed in Mangalore on Jan 23, Sunday.


The purpose of the campaign is to empower youth, initiate change, rejuvenate the spirit of national unity and peace, and urge the youth to develop a vision and take up responsibilities. JYB urges for dialogue and mutual understanding among various communities for harmony and peace. It aims to reach out to the masses throughout the nation via youth festivals, exhibitions, competitions, public functions, street plays, panel discussions, rallies, and so on.
