Mangalore, May 12, 2013: Umanath Kotian of BJP who has lost the assembly elections from Mulki-Moodbidri constituency, has said that he had quit his post as the Tulu Academy President on April 17 itself prior to filing nomination for the elections.
He said he had forwarded his resignation letter to CM Jagadish Shettar but is unaware if it has been accepted.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters during an interaction meet with party men held at Moodbidri on May 11, Saturday, Kotian said there has been an increase in the BJP share of votes in the constituency by 6.5 per cent, despite a defeat. He said his securing 48,630 votes proved that the voters had faith in him. On this occasion Kotian also pointed out that he had much less time left for campaigning due to the delay in selection of candidate. “ I would have certainly won if I had a month’s time for campaigning,” he said.
Stating that the people of Moodbidri recognized him despite him being an outsider, he said he would be in regular touch with the people of the constituency by visiting Mulki and Moodbidri three days a week.
Kotian has also launched a personal website recently.
