Mangalore, oct 31, 2012 : An auto rickshaw driver, who found a bag containing Rs. 8 lakh on the passenger seat, returned the bag to its grateful owner.
Shahid Sheikh, a businessman from West Bengal, who runs a gold jewelry business in Gokak, Belgaum, got into Shekhar’s auto rickshaw, but left his bag behind when he alighted. Although he was in agony for a few hours, he breathed a sign of relief when the Mangalore South police contacted him and told him that the driver had brought his bag to the police station.
Shekar gave the bag to Raghavendra, a traffic police constable on duty at Jyothi Circle. The driver, who hails from Kadri, had taken a number of other passengers before he spotted the bag. The police constable, who was already alerted about the bag, asked Shekar to give the bag to the Mangalore South police station, where Shahid had lodged a complaint.
Lauding Shekar for his honesty, Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar said that the city police will honor the rickshaw driver.
Shahid said that he had come to Mangalore on business when he left the bag behind in the auto. He was so relieved to get back his bag that he announced that he will reward Shekar.
