Mangalore, Dec 5, 2012 : The High Court, on December 4, Tuesday has adjourned hearing into the bail petition of Kasturi channel reporter Naveen Soorinje, to next week. Meanwhile, the court has granted a week’s time for the police to file their objections to the reporter’s bail petition. It may be recalled here that Naveen was arrested in connection with the Morning Mist homestay attack case.

The Mangalore Rural Police had charge sheeted Naveen on September 20 naming him as the 44th accused. He has been charged under the same sections of the IPC under which the perpetrators of the attack have been booked. In addition he has also been charged under the Indecent Representation of Women(Prohibition) Act, 1986 for releasing the video of the homestay attack.
The charge sheet had also said that Soorinje had “ “provoked the assailants to lift the face of the victims to enable recording of them in their camera”.
However, Soorinje had claimed that he was a “star witness” to the entire incident and that the video footages had in fact helped in tracking down the culprits.
