Holiday declared for schools, PU colleges on July 3 amid orange alert in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru, Jul 3, 2026: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for all schools and pre-university (PU) colleges across the district on Friday, July 3, following an Orange Alert issued due to continued heavy rainfall.

In an order issued on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Darshan H. V. said the holiday applies to all anganwadi centres, primary and secondary schools, government-aided and private schools, and PU colleges in the district as a precautionary measure.

The district has been witnessing persistent rainfall, and the prevailing weather conditions are expected to continue, prompting authorities to issue the Orange Alert.

The district administration has also warned that strict legal action will be taken under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, against any institution found conducting classes in violation of the holiday order.
