Udupi, Aug 27, 2012 : The people of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi experienced a wet weekend as it rained continuously on Saturday as well as Sunday.
However, the rainfall was heavier in Udupi and several places were flooded. Since a drain near Padubidri Padebettu Subrahmanya Temple was damaged because of the rains, six houses nearby were in danger of getting washed away. The local people, the fire department, and the police department helped move these families to safer areas.
Several shops and houses along the national highway have been flooded.
Udupi recorded the heaviest rainfall of 156.6mm, Kundapur recorded 107.6mm, and Karkala recorded 97.6mm.
A coconut tree uprooted over the Kalyanpura Nidamballi Higher Primary School, causing a financial loss of Rs. 10,000. Floods have disrupted normal life completely.
